At 3 Kings Auto Glass, we strive to provide excellence as a local-family owned trusted auto glass shop by providing top tier service, safety, and workmanship.

What is the difference between OEM glass and Aftermarket glass?

  • Fit and Quality: OEM is guaranteed to be a perfect fit with identical optical clarity. Aftermarket glass must meet federal safety standards, but may have slight differences sometimes resulting in increased cabin noise or minor distortion.

  • Cost: Aftermarket is significantly cheaper, often 30-50% lower in cost. Insurances are more likely to cover the full cost of an aftermarket windshield than that of the pricier OEM auto glass.

  • Features: If your vehicle has advanced features like rain sensors, heads-up displays, or cameras (ADAS), OEM is often recommended for better compatibility and easier calibration.

  • Resale Value: OEM glass can help maintain the vehicles original value.

OEM Glass vs. Aftermarket
Rock Chip Repair

Types of Windshield Rock Chips

  • Surface Chip: A small, shallow crater on the surface of the glass that does not penetrate deeply or have radiating cracks.

  • Bulls Eye Chip: A circular, cone-shaped damage with a central, dark impact point, resembling a target. These are often easy to repair.

  • Star Break: Characterized by multiple small, sharp cracks radiating outward from the central impact point, resembling a starburst. These have a high risk of spreading if not treated correctly.

  • Straight Line: A clean, straight line with a visible starting and ending point.

  • Half Moon (Partial Bullseye): Similar to a bullseye, but only in a semicircle or cresent shape is visible, rather than a full circle.

  • Angel Wings: An angular, winged-shaped chip that looks like a V or a bird in flight.

  • Star Burst: A central impact point with small, spiderweb-like cracks radiating outward. These chips, often caused by road debris, are highly susceptible to spreading into long cracks due to temperature changes or vibrations, making prompt repair.

  • Extended Ray on Bullseye: A mixture of a bullseye and star break, showing both a centeral crater and radiating legs. These require specialized repair techniques to fill all legs.

Sunroof  Replacement

Sunroof replacement involves swapping a damaged glass panel, seal, or complete assembly. The correct replacement depends on your vehicle's factory configuration and whether you are replacing just the glass or the mechanical assembly.

Rust Restoration

Auto glass rust restoration involves removing the windshield, grinding away the corrosion from the metal pinch weld, treating it with a rust converter, applying automotive primer/paint, and completely sealing the channel before reinstalling the glass. This process ensures a watertight seal and prevents leaks.

    Windshield Recalibration

Windshield recalibration is the essential process of resetting cameras and sensors linked to a vehicle's Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)-like lane-keeping assist and automatic braking following a windshield replacement. It ensures cameras properly interpret the road, with costs usually ranging from $150 to $1200. Failure to calibrate can lead to malfunctioning safety features.

    Key Aspects of Windshield Recalibration:

    • When It's Needed: Madatory after a windshielld replacement, especially for vehicles with camerasmounted behind the glass. Other senarios inclue collision repair, front-end alignment, or if ADAS warning lights appear.

    Types of calibration:

    • Static: Performed in a shop using specialized  targets and equiptment to align cameras.

    • Dynamic: Involves driving the vehicle with a diagnostic tool connected to calibrate the systems.

    • Dual: A combination of both static and dynamic methods.

    • Importance: Ensures cameras, which can be misaligned by even a millimeter during replacement, see the road accurately.
